SAG Awards 2013 best dressed

The SAG Awards took place in L.A. last night. For those of you who don't know, that stands for Screen Actors Guild Awards and they're the official awards for film and television actors that are voted by actors. The red carpet fashion highlights were a breath of fresh air after the past few award ceremonies. Here are some of my favourite of my favourite looks.

Nicole Kidman in Vivienne Westwood

Marion Cotillard in custom Dior

Rose Byrne in Valentino

Naomi Watts in Marchesa

Julianna Margulies in Chado Ralph Rucci

Ellie Kemper in Reem Acra

Kerry Washington in Rodarte

To end this post, I want to mention that the good looks were great but the bat posts were bad. Take a look at Kaley Cuoco; I've always thought that one shouldn't wear red to a red carpet, but the main point is the hair.

S/S 2013 haute couture review

Couture week in Paris has once again come and gone. Wondering what couture is? This is a post I wrote some time ago which explains the basics of the art. Haute couture is possibly my favourite aspect of fashion, so naturally, I had to write a review of the collections that stood out to me this season.

Giambattista Valli

Valli seems to just get better and better at haute couture; this collection was true elegance.

Alexis Mabille

Most opinions I saw on this collection were negative, which surprised me. Many found it too pretty and sugary-sweet. I can sort of see where they're coming from, but I nonetheless find this collection quite lovely if one looks past the pink runway.

Chanel (oh, Chanel!)

When I saw this collection, I genuinely became quite emotional. The lace, the silhouettes, the framing of the shoulders, the mysterious backdrop of the collection; it all fell together like a dark fairytale. What a genius Karl Lagerfeld is!

Valentino

I love that Valentino seems to now be heading in a darker and more mature direction without sacrificing the girlish femininity they've established. I was very pleased to see the classic Valentino red appear several times.

Elie Saab

Elie Saab is one of those brands which can always be trusted to be beautiful. In all honesty, I was a little bored by some of his other recent collections, but this collection was really dramatic and breathtaking.

Koray Birand + Harper's Bazaar Turkey = magic

There's a magazine publication I didn't think would ever impress me as much as it did: Harper's Bazaar Turkey. I don't read the written content because I don't understand Turkish, but the images are absolutely beautiful. To me, one of the stars of the publication is photographer Koray Birand, who often shoots for the magazine. The covers and editorials he's shot for Harper's Bazaar Turkey has a distinctive look that is full of luxury and vision. Here's a small taste of what he's done.

Nadia Serlidou, June 2011

Lily Cole, October 2011

Ana Beatriz Barros, November 2011

Angela Lindvall, May 2012

Jessica Stam, July 2012

Michelle Buswell, November 2012
